The pioneers, Shruti & Smriti could not be left unmoved on seeing the nearby slum children wandering here and there. On approaching them they came to know that they were not even aware of their basic rights and didn’t have any idea about how much importance does education hold in one’s life. So, they started this journey by teaching the basic things to those children in a park.
EastSons GoodWorks believed that if one person goes out of one’s way to show compassion, then it will start a chain reaction of the same and in the second week of the start itself, this was proved. A young, highly ambitious lady, Rizwana of the area, herself approached if she can accompany us.
Soon, another member, Hema Biswa also joined us.
Soon many other children also started coming on seeing the earlier ones who had learnt the basic etiquette like how to keep themselves neat & clean, how to speak politely etc. Not only this, but the another motivation behind the increasing strength was the lure of various stationeries (like Pencils, Erasers,Notebooks etc.), toffees, chocolates etc.
The authority at the park was no more in agreement with extending us the permission to continue with the classes, We had no other choice than to look for a space. Soon we rented a room in the same area, thus, Our class shifted from open to a room. This shift also led to the increase in strength of the children.
Our basic motto has been arousing interest towards getting educated in these children. So far, we have enrolled 45+ children to the nearest Government Schools. The children were more excited than we expected. They are enjoying going to School, their uniform, their books, note books, other stationeries etc.
Children started getting regular visits to Kiran Nadar Museum of Arts and Musicology (Noida & New Delhi) for learning different forms of art, craft making & music. This interaction with the outer world isn’t only making them creative but also helping them in learning basic lessons of life like basic etiquette etc.
Having a big vision in our hearts and minds we thought of empowering the impoverished women as well. So, we approached them through these camps, made them aware of their fundamental rights, made them learn the importance of education, taught them hygienic practices, different methods of birth control etc.
Aiming to bring these children closer to the mainstream, we shifted to a very good locality nearby. The new Center is very spacious and hence has a lot of space to be used as Playground and more attractions which bring more & more needy children to the learning Center.
